2 the act of general, public, praise (compare also above especially Psalm 22:4; Psalm 33:1; Psalm 106:12; Nehemiah 12:46); — בּאֹוּ שְׁעָרָיו בְּתוֺדָה ׳חֲצֵרֹתָיו בִּת Psalm 100:4 enter his gates with thanksgiving, his courts with praise; שִׁיר חָדָשׁ ׳שִׁירוּ לי תְּהִלָּתוֺ בִּקְהִל חֲסִידִים Plalm Psalm 149:1; compare Psalm 22:26; Psalm 65:2; Psalm 66:2; Psalm 147:1; before the army הֵחֵלּוּ בְרִנָּה וּתְחִלָּה2Chronicles 20:22; in exhortation to the peoples הַשְׁמִיעוּ קוֺל תְּהִלָּתוֺ Psalm 66:8 ("" בָּֽרֲכוּ עַמִּים אֱלֹהֵינוּ), compare Isaiah 42:12.

3 praise-song, as title, תְּהִלָּה לְדָוִד Psalm 145:1 (so Late Hebrew ספר תהלות & תְּהִלִּים, תִּילִּים, = Psalms).

4 qualities, deeds, etc., of ׳י, demanding praise: — נוֺרָא תְהִלֹּת Exodus 15:11 (song), i.e. terrible in attributes that call for praise ("" נֶאְדָּר בַּקֹּדֶשׁ & עשֵֹׁה פֶלֶא); often (both singular and plural) of Yahweh's deeds with verb סִמֵּר Psalm 9:15; Psalm 78:4; Psalm 79:13; Isaiah 43:21, also + ׳שֵׁם י Psalm 102:22; with יַשְׁמִיעַ Psalm 106:2 ("" ׳יְמַלֵּל גְּבוּרוֺת י); + צִדְקֶ֑ךָ with יֶהְגֶּה Psalm 35:28; with יְבַשֵּׂ֑רוּ Isaiah 60:6; + ׳חַסְדֵי י, with אַזְכִּיר Isaiah 63:7; vid also לְהֹדוֺת לְשֵׁם קָדְשֶׁ֑ךָ לְהִשְׁתַּבֵחַ בִּתְהִלָּתֶ֑ךָ Psalm 106:47 = 1 Chronicles 16:35 to give thanks unto thy holy name, to glory in thy praises (= praiseworthy deeds).

5 renown, fame, glory:

a. of Damascus עִיר תְּהִלָּ֑ה֯ Jeremiah 49:25 (on Qr תְּהִלָּ֑ת see Hi Ges^{§ 80}. 2 b); compare perhaps מַעֲטֵה תְהִלָּה Isaiah 61:3 mantle of renown (renown as a mantle, compare De VB; > Di splendid garment; but Bi Che Du read מַעֲטֵה אֵ֔בֶל and translate ׳ת praise, song of praise, compare 1. 2).

b. of ׳י, מָֽלְאָה הָאָרֶץ ׳כִּסָּה שָׁמַים הוֺדוֺ וּת Habakkuk 3:3 his splendour hath covered (the) heavens, and of his renown the earth is full. Also

c. figurative, praise, renown, = object of praise, possessor of renown; used (a) of Israel Deuteronomy 26:19 (absolute), Jeremiah 13:11 (+ לִי) Jeremiah 33:9 (+ לִי and לְכֹל גּוֺיֵי הָאָרֶץ) — all "" שֵׁם, תִּפְאֶרֶת; see also Isaiah 61:11, & perhaps Psalm 148:14 (see below

1 above); (b) of Jerusalem Isaiah 62:7, also Zephaniah 3:19,20 (both "" שֵׁם), all these with verb הָיָה or שִׂים; compare וְקָרָאת ׳יְשׁוּעָה חוֺמֹתַיִךְ וּשְׁעָרַיִךְ ת Isaiah 60:18; (c) of Babylon וַתִּתָּפֵשׂ תְּהִלַּת כָּלהָֿאָרֶץ Jeremiah 51:41; (d) of Moab אֵין מוֺאָב ׳עוֺד ת Jeremiah 48:2; (e) of ׳י, הוּא תְהִלָּֽתְךָ וְהוּא אֱלֹהֶיךָ Deuteronomy 10:21, כִּי תְהִלָּתִי אָ֑תָּה Jeremiah 17:14 (no verb)
