STRONGS NT 1053: Γαλατία

Γαλατία, Γαλατίας, , Galatia, Gallograecia, a region of Asia Minor, bounded by Paphlagonia, Pontus, Cappadocia, Lycaonia, Phrygia, and Bithynia. It took its name from those Gallic tribes that crossed into Asia Minor , and after roaming about there for a time at length settled down permanently in the above-mentioned region, and intermarried with the Greeks. From on, though subject to the Romans, they were governed by their own chiefs; but (others, 25) their country was formally reduced to a Roman province (cf. Livy 37, 8; 38, 16 and 18; Josephus, Antiquities 16, 6; Strabo 12, 5, 1, p. 567; Flor. 2, 11 (i. e. 1, 27)): Galatians 1:2; 1 Corinthians 16:1; 2 Timothy 4:10 (T Tr marginal reading Γαλλιαν); 1 Peter 1:1.
